YOUR AWARENESS TEAM AT SXS’23
Attacks on the queer community are on the rise – but not at our STICKS & STONES career fair.
STICKS & STONES is Europe’s largest queer job and career fair. A space for the community to celebrate diversity and multiplicity. Discrimination, devaluation, assaultive behavior and harassment have no place at the event. To ensure this, our Act Aware awareness team will be there to support you.
What is an awareness team?
An awareness team is a group of people who are engaged at our queer career fair or similar events to raise awareness and support for the needs and concerns of queer attendees. The team is typically made up of volunteers who are committed to creating an inclusive environment and addressing discrimination, prejudice, and harassment.
The association Act Aware e.V. introduces itself to you:
Act Aware e.V. emerged in the fall of 2020 from a working group of diverse actors:in the field of awareness. The members bring a wide range of experience and a network that extends beyond national borders. Act Aware e.V. combines academic approaches with practical event experience in order to generate scientifically sound knowledge about anti-discrimination work and awareness, to collectivize it and to prepare it for application in event practice.
What does Act Aware e.V. do at STICKS & STONES?
At STICKS & STONES, the association offers you an extra safer space. You can visit the Act Aware team at any time on the first floor to report incidents or to get information about discrimination issues.
The big advantages of an awareness team are:
Safety assurance: queer people in particular can end up in unsafe situations. Due to the presence of the team, you have someone you can turn to at all times. Furthermore, we offer you safe shelters on the first floor, 1st floor and 4th floor where you can retreat.
Raising awareness: As a community and society, there is largely a consensus that we value diversity. So it’s important to keep educating yourself and better understand people and world views.
And what will happen in the future?
We are aware that our event is not yet universally inclusive. We are working on a concept and trying to get a little better each year. If you notice areas that are not yet inclusive enough, feel free to let us know in our feedback form!
