The Competition & Compliance team looks after antitrust and compliance matters at METRO and is responsible for all METRO countries where the compliance and legal function is under the leadership of the head of legal. The team is responsible for operating and developing METRO’s compliance management system and has the conceptual responsibility for the compliance risk areas of antitrust, anti-corruption and anti-money laundering. It is also responsible for all antitrust matters outside of antitrust compliance, including antitrust recovery and merger control. The Competition & Compliance team is part of the overall department of Compliance, Competition and Procurement Partnerships & Regulatory within the Corporate Legal Affairs & Compliance division. Legal Counsel Competition & Compliance (m/f) Your tasks: Your portfolio of responsibilities will comprise two key areas: antitrust/competition (majority of your workload) and compliance. As regards antitrust, you will focus on three different topics. Firstly, you will be the corporate counsel for a selected number of local heads of legal, supporting them with antitrust law expertise including implementing a group-wide antitrust program and defending in government investigations and court cases. Secondly, you will be working cross-functionally in M&A transactions supporting Legal M&A and M&A colleagues including primary responsibility for merger control associated with M&A projects. Thirdly, you will be a driving factor for implementing a group-wide antitrust recovery program which focuses on recovering damages suffered from supplier cartels. As regards compliance, you will focus on three different elements. Firstly, you will be responsible to develop, fine tune and revise compliance tools deployed to our country organizations, easy to understand and ready for use. Secondly, you will be the corporate counsel for a selected number of local compliance officers on the basis of solid line agreements, focusing on leading for high performance, implementing best practices and role modeling a business partner attitude and trusted advisor for compliance incident handling. Thirdly, you will tailor compliance requirements to the needs of a lean wholesale business, preventing corporate requirements from unnecessarily limiting business opportunities or customer centricity, while safeguarding METRO’s integrity and reputation. Supporting the business, customer centricity and adding value while safeguarding against risks and staying clear of compliance no-go areas are guiding principles for all of these responsibilities.   Your profile: You are an out-of-the-box thinker with a strong cross-functional mindset and a genuine interest in our business. You dream big, get stuff done and are fun to work with. You don’t shy away from conflict but are diplomatic, convincing and passionate in execution and communication. We are seeking to recruit a legal professional with in-depth and hands-on experience in antitrust law matters. Ideally, you also have working experience on compliance matters outside of antitrust law. Experience in working in groups with diverse cultural backgrounds is an asset. The desire to engage with and understand customers and their business needs comes naturally to you. You do not shy away from taking decisions and are ruthless in defending them if put to test by authorities or other stakeholders. You are proactive in taking action whenever opportunity for improving the way things are done presents itself. Your track record of being part of change and leading change is compelling. You hold a law degree from a university in the European Union. You are fluent in either English or German and at least one additional METRO country language.
