Gijsbert works as Legal Counsel (Team Lead) in European banking supervision at the ECB since 2015. Before that, he practised law in private practice (a.o. competition law & litigation), taught law at universities in The Netherlands and England (EU law & constitutional law) where he also took a PhD (published in 2013 as 'Of Bills and Rights'), and worked as a lawyer at the Dutch central bank in Amsterdam. In 2020, he published a book (in Dutch) on EU banking supervision, and he is working on an English language version of this. Gijsbert is Chair of the ECB Rainbow Network, which he runs together with four colleagues as board members. He used to be Chair of a Dutch national organization for LGBT+ professionals. He is the father of two sons, of 5 and 0 years old, who grow up with their mothers. Gijsbert loves swimming, newspapers, 99% chocolate & espressos - not always in that order.
