STICKS & STONES aims to be a safer space.

STICKS & STONES is Europe’s largest queer job and career festival. It’s a space for the community where diversity and inclusion are celebrated. Discrimination, derogation, intrusive behavior, and harassment have no place here. Visitors of STICKS & STONES should feel comfortable, regardless of age, ethnic background and nationality, gender and gender identity, physical and mental abilities, religion and worldview, sexual orientation, and social background. To ensure this, our on-site Awareness Team is here to support you.

An Awareness Team is a group of individuals who create awareness at events like STICKS & STONES or similar gatherings about the needs and concerns of our participants, providing them with support. The team strives to create a more inclusive environment and counteract discrimination, prejudice, and harassment.

If you witness or experience an inappropriate situation, please reach out immediately to the STICKS & STONES Awareness Team on-site and proactively engage with them. You can find our Awareness Team at any time on the ground floor near the entrance area of the Uber Eats Music Hall. There, you can report incidents or inquire about discrimination-related issues. Additionally, you can also approach any members of our crew at any time. All of us will be wearing STICKS & STONES t-shirts. We are here to assist you.

Ensuring safety: With the team’s presence, you have someone available at all times to turn to if you feel uncomfortable. Additionally, we provide you with a safe space where you can retreat.

Raising awareness: In our community and society at large, there is a consensus that we value diversity and inclusivity. Therefore, it is important to educate ourselves further and to better understand one another. Moreover, it is significant to raise awareness about various forms of discrimination.

The Queer Mama Awareness Team introduces itself.

“The Queer Mama Awareness Team is an independent group dedicated to ensuring safety within the queer community. We prioritize approachability, conflict resolution, harm reduction, and overall wellbeing, striving to create a non-judgmental environment at events.

Promoting marginalized identities is a crucial part of Queer Mama’s mission, achieved through breaking down barriers, exchanging perspectives, and promoting education.

During events, we focus on ensuring all participants understand the importance of awareness. In situations involving judgment, consent, discrimination, aggression, substance use, or emergencies, the Awareness Team intervenes. The team operates with a non-judgmental, non-violent approach, emphasizing de-escalation, wellbeing, and empowerment.”

And what happens in the future?

We are constantly working on our concept and striving to improve each year. If you would like to give us feedback on your experience with awareness or notice areas that are not inclusive enough, please let us know in our feedback form for the Awareness Team! You can find the feedback form in the form of a QR code at the Awareness stand.
